Carrera Cup Italia, Mardini takes another win as Muscat/Studderd claim podium finish in the Super Trofeo Asia
Bashar Mardini defended his Michelin Cup lead at Imola. The GDL Racing driver was one of the front-runners in the Carrera Cup Italia round 2. Second of the category in qualifying, he finished also second in a red-flagger Race 1, after completing only four laps behind the safety car due to the heavy rain.
The Canadian-Emirates driver produced a sensational performance in the Sunday morning’s Race 2. In dry conditions Mardini scored his third victory of the season after dominating the Monza opener and took a top-10 overall finish to claim P9.
To show well at the same venue was newcomer Paul Tresidder. The Australian made his debut driving a second 911 GT3 Cup car fielded by GDL Racing, finishing on the edge of the Michelin Cup podium ant 18th overall.
In the second round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia held in the same weekend at Suzuka, Austrialian Richard Muscat and Danny Studderd kept up the honour of the Gianluca De Lorenzi’s team as they finished sixth overall and fourth in the PRO-AM category in the first race. In Race 2 they finished fourth overall and second of the class.
Newcomer Australia’s San Filmore claimed another podium as he finished second and fourth in the Lamborghini Cup.
Poor luck in the first of two Japanese races for Gabriele Murroni, who already claimed a second position in the Lamborghini Cup at the Sepang opener. The Monegasque was forced to retire but finished fifth in Race 2.
Retirement in Race 1 also for Samson Chan, who took a stunning second place in the Lamborghini Cup Race 2.
