GDL Racing claims 2nd place at DMV 4H of VLN Series

After a podium finish at the ADAC Qualifying Race two weeks ago, GDL Racing team took part in the VLN Series Round 2 lining up a Porsche 997 car for Australian Paul Stubber and the experienced Marco Mapelli.

The latter hit the barrier during the Saturday morning practice, due to the oil lack from another car that was in front of him. The team did an extraordinary job to let Paul Stubber to complete the session.

With 45 minutes to the chequered flag, the Australian re-joined the track and set the second quickest time of his class in 8:34 although the traffic, with 173 cars in the field. Eventually the GDL Racing’d Porsche ended fourth.

At the race start Mapelli moved up second with a 5-second gap from the leader, before the red flag was out for a big accident that involved two cars (the drivers were both unhurt).

At re-start Stubber-Mapelli remained in second place, but after the finish line the GDL Racing team was penalised for proceeding at high speed when the yellow flags were waved. Last but not least, the marshals decided to penalize furthermore the Stubber-Mapelli car as an other team protested the rear wing of the Porsche, although the same wing was perfectly regular at the technical scrutineering before the race. GDL Racing didn’t appeal.

Next VLN race is scheduled for May 17 and it is the last before the next June 24H Nürburgring.
