GDL Racing ends a triumphal season at Imola clinching the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia title
The last round of the season brought GDL Racing another title, the third of this year. At Imola the squad led by Gianluca De Lorenzi celebrated the triumph of Rik Breukers and Nigel Farmer in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia, becoming the only team victorious in three different continents, including the SPX class win at the 24H Dubai.
The young Dutchman – already 2017 champion in the Middle East series together with Axcil Jefferies – and the Hong Kong’s driver emerged in the PRO-AM class at the Santerno’s track, that hosted in the same week the fifth edition of the World Final. They built up their success after finishing third in the class in the Friday’s Race 1 and claiming the second place and the third overall in Race 2.
The perfect GDL Racing weekend in the last round of the Asian series, was completed by the two victories of the Argentinean Andrés Josephsohn in the AM class.
Breukers and Zimbawe’s Axcil Jefferies, finished also second in the European Championship, after they battled for the title till the last race. The GDL Racing duo claimed at Imola a fourth and second position.
Sri Lanka’s Dilantha Malagamuwa and Italy’s Mario Cordoni also showed weel, taking respectively a fourth and sixth position in the AM class.
Malagamuwa was one of the frontrunners in the World Final Race 2, finishing third overall. Same story for his team mate Cordoni, who claimed a podium finish in the Saturday’s Race 1. Among the PROs, Breukers and Jefferies took P2 in the second race, after Breukers set the pole position in Qualifying 2. Shame for their retirement in Race 1, when Jefferies went out while battling for the top spot.
The next commitment of the GDL Racing will be in Dubai – where the new team’s headquarters is almost ready – entering the 3H NGK and 12H Abu Dhabi.
