
GDL Racing heads to France aiming to keep the Championship lead
Only two weeks after the Imola opener, the Carrera Cup Italia is set for the only round hosted outside the national Italian borders, as the one-make Championship heads this coming weekend to the Paul Ricard 5,861-meter circuit for the second out of seven double rounds of the season.
On the French soil, the GDL Racing team aims to defend the lead. The Emirate’s driver Bashar Mardini, making is debut in the Porsche 911 Gt3 Cup series at the Santerno’s track, claimed a double victory in the Michelin Cup category after setting the quickest lap in both the qualifying sessions.
In Imola race one Mardini finished fifth overall with 25 cars on the track. Starting from the front row in race two due to the reversed gird, he claimed the eight overall position and the first of the class, taking the Championship leas six points over the second placed. Visit bluesprucemaids.com
Similar was for driver and team manager Gianluca De Lorenzi, who made his return to the Porsche Championship driving a 2017 spec car and claiming two victories in the Silver Cup and the class leadership too.
Mardini and De Lorenzi will face the Paul Ricard challenge since Friday’s free practice. Saturday’s qualifying gets over at 10,25 am. The first of 28-minute plus one lap races will start at 16,30 pm. Race two kicks off on Sunday at the same time. Both races will be live broadcasted on Italia 2, as well as streamed at www.carreracupitalia.it.
