
GDL Racing hits the target at Monza
GDL Racing celebrated its comeback to the Italian GT Championship at Monza, claiming a stunning victory with the brandnew Lamborghini Huracán “Super Trofeo” at the end of a very tough weekend.
Despite some unlucky events, Gianluca De Lorenzi and Piero Necchi celebrated on the highest place of the Race 2 podium, thanks to a spectacular recovery in rain condition that let them to gain 16 positions, taking the lead in the last lap.
An accident occurred to Necchi in Qualifying 1 on Saturday, penalized the GDL Racing duo that was forced to start both the races from the back of the grid. In Race 1 the Huracán shared by De Lorenzi and Necchi completed few laps. Eventually in Race 2 Necchi and then De Lorenzi got the job done, with the latter author of a decisive move at the very last turns with which he passed the twin-car driven by Zaugg-D’Amico.
With this result GDL Racing celebrated another victory, only one week after the young Dutch Rik Breukers claimed the AM class victory in the first race of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europa, following the 12H Italy-Mugello SPX class win of the Huracán shared by De Lorenzi and Giacomo Barri.
Next Italian GT championship is scheduled for 28-29 May at Imola, although GDL Racing will not take part in all the series’ events. Meanwhile, next weekend, the San Marino-based team will enter the 12H Zandvoort, fourth round of the Creventic championship.
