GDL Racing makes its return in the Carrera Cup Italia claiming a double Michelin Cup victory with Bashar Mardini

GDL Racing made an epic return to the Carrera Cup Italy. In the first out of seven double rounds of the 2018 season that kicked off this weekend in Imola, the Gianluca De Lorenzi’s team claimed a double victory with newcomer Bashar Mardini completing an exciting debut in the Porsche 911 Gt3 Cup one-make series.

The 36-year-old Emirates’driver took a double win in the Michelin Cup. After setting the fastest time of his class in the qualifying, in Race 1 he made a consistent recovery finishing fifth overall.

Due to reversed grid he started Race 2 from the first row, avoiding contacts in the opening caotic laps and claiming another victory in the Michelin Cup class, finishing eight overall and taking the first place in the standings, find more on this click.

Team manager and driver De Lorenzi, piloting a 2017 spec car, finished twice first in the Silver class and 13th overall on Saturday’s race, fighting with the new evo cars.

After Imola the Carrera Cup Italy Championship will head to the Paul Ricard circuit, in France, over the weekend of 12/13 May.
