GDL Racing stops its participation in the Italian GT
Two victories – the first clinched at Monza on early May and the other last weekend in the second round at Imola – and the Super GT Cup leadership: it was an excellent seasonal start for Gianluca De Lorenzi and Piero Necchi, with the Lamborghini Huracán “Super Trofeo” in the Italian GT Championship.
Unfortunately several clashes, due to some commitments previously made – including the opening and development of a new headquarter in the Emirates – will force the San Marino-based team to not continue its program in the Aci Sport series… a suffered but unavoidable decision.
“We started at Monza almost jokingly and we won. Then we decide to enter also the Imola race and we won again. All good things come in three’s… but the team unfortunately had already made some commitments since the last November, including some test days, and so we couldn’t continue” – commented driver and team manager De Lorenzi.
At the moment is quite likely that the GDL Racing’s Lambo could enter some other races of the Italian GT, but for sure without aiming at the title.
“I hope Piero Necchi could find a new team to continue in the Italian series and win the championship too – added De Lorenzi – He is very fierce, determined such a young driver and very expert: for all of that he is worth of it”.
Following here the campionships in which GDL Racing will race this year: Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europa, the round of Sepang of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia; 25H Spa-Francorchamps, 24H Barcelona, 12H Sepang and 12H Abu Dhabi.
