GDL Racing sweeps all at Venray Raceway as Philipp Lietz takes a double victory

GDL Racing swept all in round 2 of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, hosted by the Venray Raceway.

The San Marino-based squad was the most victorious team of the last weekend, as Philipp Lietz took a dominant double win in the ELITE 2 class in his Ford Mustang. Austrian driver set the quickest lap time in the qualifying and won both the races after a struggled battle with the twin car of Thomas Ferrando. Lietz has moved on third place in the Drivers standings, with a four-point gap from the leader Gianmarco Ercoli.

Francesca Linossi, in a GDL Racing-powered Dodge Challenger, finished at the shade of the top-10 and scored the victory among the Ladies by showing well as she did on late April in the opening round at Valencia, when she claimed a sensational sixth overall position and topped the Lady standings as well.

Poor luck in the same class for Danish Niki Petersen, who was forced to an early retirement in both the races.

In ELITE 1, Lietz claimed the fourth position in Race 1, while Swede Freddy Nordström finished ninth. In Race 2 Lietz ended eight and Nordström 11th. Dominich Tiroch didn’t start in Race 1 and had to retire in Race 2.

Next NASCAR Whelen Euro Series round is scheduled in just two weeks, at the Brands Hatch circuit in UK, on the 5th-6th-7th of June.
