Gianluca De Lorenzi made a thrilling Boss GP debut at Mugello in a Lola B50/52-Gibson car. GDL Racing driver and team manager, who made his first appearance in the ex F1 and V8 series, was one of the front-runners over the past weekend.

After setting the third quickest time and the first of the Auto GP category in the qualifying – leading the session with five minutes to go on the wet track – the Italian/San Marino-based racer made a great Race 1 start following a red flag waved during the warm-up lap. Then he went wide at turn 1, recovering well from the back to finish third.

In a rain-hit Race 2, at the light De Lorenzi moved up second from third behind the Formula 1 Toro Rosso of the Austrian Ingo Gerstl. Eventually on a drier track he went back to fourth and 3rd among the Auto GP cars.

It was a very positive weekend for me. I’ve never driven this car previously, except in a short test one week before“, De Lorenzi said. “Comparing with the GP2 I had 60 hps less. Things were best on the wet. I was hoping for rain. I know it could let me to fight for the victory in the second race. I am pretty satisfied“.

In the same weekend GDL Racing fielded two cars in the Porsche Club GT opener. Roberto Fecchio, made a strong season debut claiming a third position. Poor luck for Macedonian Risto Vukov who went out and had to stop prematurely.
